How You Can Reach More People on Social Media

How many people know about your business, what you offer, and how you deliver?

The internet and social media offer you the potential to reach millions of potential customers.

However, just because you are present on social media does mean you are being seen by the right audience, that is, your customers and potential customers.

According to Mike Koenigs, Author of the book, You Everywhere Now, lack of visibility is the biggest marketing problem of small business owners.

Its easy for business owners to take this for granted because they are in their business all the time and knowing that the business exists seems like a no-brainer.

However, remember that even large companies have to keep advertising.

Nobody is born knowing what ShopRite or Zambeef is. At some point, they need to become aware that these companies exist.

I would add that even in a big company, some products can have visibility or awareness problems.

How to Increase Your Visibility

You can get more people to know about you and your company through one of these:

  • Run awareness ads
  • Run acquisition or ‘page likes’ ads
  • Reach out to online interest groups
  • Use human billboards
  • Use popular pages

Let me expand a bit on each.

Awareness Ads.

You pay the social media platform to show your product or service to people who have never heard of you. Let’s say you have this new, fresh vegetable market called Jasper market (image and name credit: Facebook)

People who have never heard about it, come across an ad like this one.

Before they were not aware of your business, now they are.

Acquisition or page likes ads.

You can run ads with the specific purpose of increasing the number of social media likes or followers for your page.

Here is an example. The copy specifically invites people to like and follow the page.

Reach Out to Online Interest Groups.

Just like in the offline world, or real world, people like to gather around certain interests.

There are groups on Facebook for all kinds of interests.

Examples:

  • Weight loss recipes
  • Agriculture
  • Real estate and property
  • Gardening
  • Home construction
  • Beauty
  • Make-up
  • Art and photography…

The list is virtually endless.

You can reach out to groups that are relevant to what you sell and share information related to your business. The key to using groups is that you need to provide value first rather than just advertising.

You must use content marketing.

Use Human Billboards.

What is a human billboard?

That’s my own term for influencers. An influencer is simply a person who has influence over a group of people.

With the power of the internet, there are influencers with millions of followers.

They are basically human billboards because anything that appears on them gets exposed to their networks.

Did you know that there are influencers who get paid as much as $500,000 per post?

Last I check, one of the most expensive influencer, Kylie Jenner gets paid $1.4million USD for a single social media post.

Yes, that is correct $1,400,000.

Why would companies pay that much? Because people cannot buy from you if they don’t know that you exist.

You probably don’t need to pay that much. You can find a local, cheaper but still effective influencer to market with and reach your relevant audience.

Use popular pages

You can use popular pages that also allow marketing.

My very first page, a parenting blog is one example.

News pages with lots of active, engaged followers such as Mwebantu is another example.

Below is an example of an advert by DStv on a popular news page.

In conclusion.

The internet and social media offer you the potential to reach millions of potential customers.

However, just because you are present on social media does mean you are being seen by the right audience, that is, your customers and potential customers.

You can use one or more of these methods to ensure that more people see you.

  • Run awareness ads
  • Run acquisition or ‘page likes’ ads
  • Reach out to online interest groups
  • Use human billboards
  • Use popular pages
